Volunteers from across the country have researched and written nearly 400 fully-referenced biographies relating to the lives of those inmates found in workhouses on the 1881 census.
These are freely available at the More Than Oliver Twist eHive™ database.
In 2019, the “More Than Oliver Twist” project was created. This project brought together volunteers to research the lives of the inmates of six workhouses, including the Leeds Union Workhouse, as recorded by the 1881 census.
This project is still ongoing, and biographies of the inmates of the Leeds Union Workhouse, Infirmary and School will continue to be added to the museum’s records by our Heritage volunteers.
These are freely available at the Thackeray Museum Database.
